This is a fine and reasonably thorough book for the basics but if you are going to buy only one iPhone book you're better off with either David Pogue's The Missing Manual or Andy Ihnatko's iPhone Fully Loaded. Both cover the basics as well or better than this book and both also provide information to help you take full advantage of all the iPhone can do. I think iPhone Fully Loaded is the better of these two in this respect and is the easy choice but it might be a little geek-centric for some. The Bounty (Malloy Family, Book 1)

Tyler Calhoun has just been hired to capture a bounty named Nicky and he is determined to bring the outlaw in. He's the best at what he does and he's made quite a name for himself, so when he finds out that Nicky is actually Nicole, he's insulted that someone with his considerable skills would be sent out after a woman. The reward covers up any ruffled feathers though and he's soon on his way, sure that this will take no time at all. When next we meet Tyler, he's being tortured by a group of bandits, facing certain death, only to be rescured by the very woman he's hunting. While Tyler is definitely grateful, he's soon back on her trail. He catches up with her and is determined to bring her in. Nicky is equally determined to not go back. She faces painful memories back home, plus a hangman's noose. She's going to make their trip as annoying and painful as possible for this overgrown bounty hunter and of course that just means the sparks are going to fly.

Eh. Kind of undecided on this one. It's definitely not erotica. Not even close. They don't even have sex until well into the story. The Old West setting that Beth Williamson created certainly felt believable, but other than that, I didn't really enjoy this book. I liked Tyler, he was okay. Nicky wasn't too bad either. I think I got mad at everyone's actions, to be honest, but then I don't like this type of book to begin with so I am definitely biased. I don't like the man being a bounty hunter who is sent to drag the murderous outlaw back to justice, who is in fact a nubile young woman (and always a virgin) who falls in love with her jailer/bounty hunter, and despite knowing she is probably innocent, the bounty hunter still drags her back to face certain death, realizing along the way that he loves her. Yawn. I've read this book before and this one is nothing new. Though there is an injection of the paranormal in the fact that Tyler swears he hears Nicky calling to him when she is in trouble. That was interesting but it didn't really go anywhere. What really set my teeth on edge is when right in the beginning, Tyler meets up with two men who try to warn him off the task of collecting a bounty on Nicky. It turns out that these men were Nicky's brothers. Now I'm sure their manly growling was tough and ferocious but it still didn't change the fact that Nicky's family never really got off their butts to go look for her. I just couldn't wrap my mind around that fact and since I suspected that those men were Nicky's brothers right from the beginning, it immediately soured the rest of my reading.

So I'm undecided on this one. It was okay. Nothing new or special. I liked Tyler and I liked Nicky. I just didn't like the parts they were forced to play. I'll try the next book in this series someday. Buy The Bounty (Malloy Family, Book 1)!

From Head to Toe Big Book

This is my 14 month old's favorite book. It is a real joy to watch her learn these movements. It started at around 10 months with the hand clapping, and now she's bending her neck, wriggling her hips, stomping her feet, and just last week she started raising her shoulders. I plan to make this a staple birthday gift for 1 and 2 year olds. As many reviews suggest, this can be a favorite for many years. You truly can't go wrong with this one! The Apron Book: Making, Wearing, and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort

I really like this book. I am a beginner sewer and I have already made the Basic Waist Apron (the first of the patterns) and it was very simple. The instructions were very easy to follow. I love the stories that are told...and I am an antique lover so the vintage styles and prints are a great treat to look at.

What Color Is It?/zQue color es este? (Good Beginnings) (Spanish Edition)

This is a VERY basic color book, with seven colors - each page features a scene of a pig with lots of objects in that page's color. There is nothing particularly compelling about this book, but it has made a nice addition to our children's library - they like to sit and "read" it themselves and I do think it helped reinforce their knowledge of colors early on. We have not started using the Spanish words yet, but now that the kids understand and speak the English word for the colors, we will probably begin using the Spanish. The Black Book of Colors

I admit I don't have the smartest fingers in the world, but the Braille in this book has some problems. It's not tactile enough to read by finger, at least not to me. I also wish the Braille were contracted (grade 2) Braille, as is standard; I think this would increase the accessibility for Braille readers, who could well find the book interesting. The tactile pictures, however, are REALLY neat, and I wish I could use similar techniques with my own tactile graphics. I guess I'll have to stick with shirt paint, though. :(

I see a lot of usefulness in this book, despite the shortcomings. It would make me very happy, though, if the Braille problems could be corrected (especially the readability problem, even if uncontracted Braille were still used). Perhaps this can be fixed in the future, although I don't think the book should be marketed as being completely accessible to blind people until then. Buy The Black Book of Colors!

The "What's Happening to My Body" Book for Girls, Revised Third Edition (What's Happening to My Body?)

I'm a 28 year old teacher and mother of two (third due in November), and I grew up on the older version of this book. I was a very curious, information-seeking little girl, and my mom bought this for me when I was 8. I skipped over the chapters on boys and their anatomy for a few years (ew!), but this book taught me everything I wanted to know at the time. I was even known for correcting the sex education teachers' information when it didn't match up with what I had learned here!
Some may think that the information is too advanced for young ones, but if they don't hear the facts they will only believe the crazy (and often disturbing) myths about sex that they hear from their friends. I know that this book helped me to become a well-educated young woman who felt in control of her own body because she understood what was going on. I never felt shame about my body, and was able to maintain my virginity until I was 25--so the abundance of information definitely didn't "ruin" my purity!!

Ball Blue Book of Preserving

My mother and I have canned for years, she is from the depression era. This is a good basic book, but beware, cooking times for chutneys is about 4 hours short. the stuff willtaste like vinegar.
The other ball book is much more complete. The sugar in these rescipes is very high!!! The other ball book has a better intro to explain when you can change sugar ratio. Sugar and vinegar ratios are not, NOT, random numbers. Nor is cooking time!!!! several kinds of food posioning occur when directions are not understood. The Dangerous Book for Dogs: A Parody by Rex and Sparky

Having read The Dangerous Book for Boys and having seen all the books emulating this formula, I was a little hesitant to give this one a try. I read an excerpt and it was pretty darned cute.
And that pretty much summarizes the book, pretty darned cute.
Always told from the perspective of the pooch, this book addresses stereotypical issues such as wearing stupid little costumes, relations with Mail Carriers, and different kinds of play.
It's a quick read so the joke doesn't get a chance to wear too thin. It seems to realize that it has to strike quickly and get out before the reader gets stale with the subject matter.
Just enough there to keep you interested and amused without dragging out and becoming a parody of itself. Given this approach I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars. The star deduction is due to the fact that there really isn't anything new here aside from the perpective. The Baby Sleep Book: The Complete Guide to a Good Night's Rest for the Whole Family (Sears Parenting Library)

I just don't know how this book could be useful to anyone. I already knew how to nurse my baby to sleep or to hold him all night. This book is not for working moms. It does not give solutions for napping other than wearing your baby or sleeping with him. Unfortunately that is not an option when you have to work. I am all for attachment parenting, our baby slept with us for 6 months, but this book is only useful if you want to reaffirm your decision to do so. At 6 months, I was basically a zombie-still waking up every hour to feed my baby and getting up for work at 6 am. I came home and basically spent a few hours nursing my baby to sleep and then had to get up to clean my house. We finally let our son cry a little (really not much) and put him to sleep in his crib. I have to tell you--he is happier. He is sleeping more soundly and is able to soothe himself. He is napping longer, too. This book makes you feel like you are abusing your child if you let him learn to put himself to sleep. Fancy Nancy: Poison Ivy Expert (I Can Read Book 1)

Am I the only one who is a little disappointed with the "I Can Read" book versions of Fancy Nancy? The story here is still cute, and it's the most educational version of Nancy for certain, but it's kind of missing a lot of the "fanciness" of the hardcover books that made them really fun. There is more to being Fancy Nancy than saying "X is a fancy way of saying Y", which is all that this book really offers. There is no fancy versus un-fancy conflict in her poison ivy escapade. Twenty-four, that's right. Count 'em, twenty-four short stories from some of the big names in current paranormal romance...all in one fairly heavy trade paperback! "The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance" is a mammoth undertaking edited by Trisha Telep with stories by Carrie Vaughn, Cheyenne McCray, Kelley Armstrong, Anna Windsor, Anya Bast, Jean Johnson, CT Adams & Cathy Clamp, Holly Lisle, Mary Jo Putney, Eve Silver, Ilona Andrews, Maria V Snyder, Catherine Mulvany, Jeaniene Frost, Lori Devoti, Sara Mackenzie, Lynda Hilburn, Alyssa Day, Michelle Rowen, Rachel Caine, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Meljean Brook, Allyson James, & Dina James...whew! I hadn't planned to include every author, but who on that list would you leave out?

Now at 528 pages divided by 24 authors...ummm, OK you do the math. None of the stories are long , but each is just enough to give you a quickie taste of your favorite, or give you an idea of whether or not you'd like the author. Since I'd read at least one book by all the authors with the exception of Dina James, this was more of a 'quickie read before bed' book than a 'sit down and power read book'. Some of the stories are set in worlds I already knew from other books by that author with familiar characters. Others were something new and different. All but a couple left me wanting more and hoping that respective author would expand in a full-length novel soon.

Since there are so many stories, it would be difficult for any paranormal reader NOT to find some gems. The heroes and heroines run the gamut from human to vampire to gargoyle to shifters to witches and on and on. "The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance" will stay on my keeper shelf. Untamed (House of Night, Book 4)

This book takes place a day or two after the end of Chosen. Zoey is working on making up to her friends by not sharing all of what is going on. But, when Aphrodite has a vision of Zoey dieing alone, she takes things into her own hands and gets the "nerd herd" straightened out.

Now that they are back together, they have to figure out what to do with Stevie Rae and the rest of the group. It feels right to introduce them to the school, but how are they going to accomplish that without Neferet finding out? They also have Stark, a new transfer, that has newly died during the Change. When is he going to rise and how is Neferet going to use him?

Then there is Kalona, a serious super evil being that has been locked in the earth and is going to be released. First they have to figure out who is going to release him and how. Hopefully the leader of all High Priestesses, Shekinah, can get this straightened out before Neferet officially starts killing humans.

I love this series. I feel for Zoey, she is trying to protect her friends and others even though things are to that easy. She is definitely fighting an up hill battle. Thankfully her friends are there to support her the whole way. I will say that I was disappointed in the ending. But it is a great lead into the next book, Hunted. I know I've said it before, but if you like Twilight, you will love this series.Buy Untamed (House of Night, Book 4)!

How to Write a Book Proposal

I used this book 4 years ago to write a book proposal for my book of technical mysteries, "If I Only Changed the Software, Why is the Phone on Fire?"

As I'd never written a book before, but I had extensive writing experience, I needed guidance on the mechanics of the proposal. This book does a great job of listing the different sections needed in a clear manner. It also includes recommendations on how to phrase information for clear readability.

There are many books on the market to help with proposals, and I used several in my research - this was a good one. It must have been useful, because I received two contracts within a couple months of my releasing the proposal. My book was published in 2007 and is available here on Amazon at the link below.

Who Says Quack? (Pudgy Board Book)

My 18-month old carries this book around with him during the day. The photos keep him busy and he loves turning the pages.

There really isn't a story to the book. Just animal noises. Fun to read and I've heard him practicing the noises when he looks at the book himself.
