Clara Parkes is one of those people who inspire others. She puts out a weekly web magazine that reviews different yarns. She provides detailed explanations of how the yarn felt, how it knitted up, the pros and cons of using it and all this is provided for free to knitters.

This book is a gathering of some of her best ideas and recommendations about different yarns; what is best for certain projects or certain tastes. She tries to be objective and I respect her recommendations completely.

The Book of Jasher

Whether this is the actual book mentioned in the Bible or a corrupted version of it, the Book of Jasher is an interesting read. I agree with the author of the original translation's introduction as to it probably not being inspired (in the same way the Bible is). Whatever the view one takes on its level of inspiration, the book definitely paints many of the well-known stories from the first six books of the Bible with a more detailed and sometimes fantastic description. From the relationship of Cain and Abel and the events leading to Abel's death, to the various wars in the Middle East during the time of Joshua, this book is definitely entertaining.Buy The Book of Jasher!

Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals

I bought this for my 7 year old nephew but I've had just as much fun with it. There's a wide variety of animals and creatures in the book with patient, step-by-step how-to-draw illustrations for each. There are easy bugs and birds and then more difficult dragons so there's room to practice and grow. Children love how-to-draw books and this is one of the best I've seen.
