The Book of General Ignorance

This is a cool skip around book. My husband and I are both "skipping around" in it. It's neat that we've both read different parts and we always end up telling each other interesting things we've learned as they come up (or not) in conversation. (We keep it in the bathroom) We've even broke it out at parties and everyone can't help but to turn it into a trivia game. Which in turn makes for a great drunken theological/philosophical group discussion. It's just fun. We love it. It does have a couple entries that might greatly surprise the Bible thumper. It did me.

It's easy, easy to recommend this book to my friends. All I have to do is read them, or have them read, the short and "INTERESTING" preface. That in itself is an excellent hook. I can't think of anyone that would not love this book.Buy The Book of General Ignorance!

The Big-Ass Book of Crafts

Are the antiques of tomorrow! Before I went to graduate school, I helped manage a French antique store. We sold everything from the rustic to the refined, but the items the most people grooved on were the smaller quirky objects that were more often than not made by "amateur" crafts people: tramp art frames, naive paintings, coquillage pedestals, and even a whole dresser surfaced in "pique assiette". Handmade items by the non-professional have more charm and warmth. And if sales are any indication of desirability, then these are the types of objects that people seek out to have in their homes because we sold them for a pretty penny.

I think this book carries on the great tradition of amateur crafting. I found most of the entries charming in a quirkily stylish manner. There are a few projects in the book that were perfect for my home, and I must say turned out pretty good even in my bumbling hands. And I recently made something from the book as a gift for a friend and she loved it. She was touched that I made it with my own hands, and it's now in her dining room. And like she said - "better than some mass produced crap made in China." And who knows, maybe that gift I made for my friend will end up in an antique shop decades from now. I look forward to checking out this author's other books.

The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life (Chopra, Deepak)

The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life by Deepak Chopra is a book about teaching the reader the secrets of themselves. There are 15 secrets ranging from --"the world is in you," to "what you seek, you already are, "and "freedom tames the mind." The author also reassures the reader that "finding the hidden dimensions in yourself is the only way to fulfill your deepest hunger." Chopra blends science with spiritually by showing how the mystery of life can be demonstrated by the understanding and workings of one's body. The author tries to impress one important secret and that is "you are not in the world; the world is in you."

After you read this book it may be a good time to consider reading my book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers, a Message for Everyone" (See Profile Above)

The Book of Five Rings

At first glance it may appear this is simply a book on martial arts. However it is much more, encompassing the philosophy of, and necessity for, living the Way of Martial Arts. Miyamoto's many writings delve not only into martial arts, but can be applied much more broadly as a way of meditation and life even in today's modern world. It can teach you to focus while detaching yourself from a volatile situation, and can teach you how to experience peace of the deepest form in a violent, confusing world. I recommend absorbing this book a small bit at a time, and meditating on each principle until you can feel it working in your mind and life. Buy The Book of Five Rings!

Living By the Book: The Art and Science of Reading the Bible

I love this book and would recommend it to anyone. It was one of my college textbooks at Calvary Chapel Bible College Indianapolis (www.ccbci.org) in our Inductive Bible Study course. I just recently bought another copy for a 12-year-old friend of mine who loves studying the Bible.

Among other things, this book teaches you:
- How to observe the Bible accurately
- How to interpret the Bible correctly
- How to apply the Bible personally to YOUR LIFE
- How to use commentaries effectively
- How to use Bible dictionaries correctly
- How to Live by the Book

I pray that you will be blessed by it.Buy Living By the Book: The Art and Science of Reading the Bible!

The Foot Book: Dr. Seuss's Wacky Book of Opposites

While we had purchased many of the "Classic" Dr. Seuss books, I had shied away from the ones that seemed focused on one specific topic ("The Hat Book," "The Nose Book, etc.) thinking they would be boring. I finally picked up "The Foot Book," after looking at a few of the pages inside, and my kids (16 months old) love it! The book has been great for teaching adjectives - "low," "high," "wet," "dry," etc. The illustrations are such that my kids really seem to understand the gist of the word being used. It's fun, fast, and another favorite for my kids' self-reading efforts.Buy The Foot Book: Dr. Seuss's Wacky Book of Opposites!
